Challenge
Turn a big global issue into something meaningful and local through design. Create a smart, impactful solution that connects with people in a way that feels fresh, relevant, and lasting.
Solution
A magazine that celebrates Gainesville while also raising awareness about the housing crisis. By sharing these stories side by side, we build a sense of community and responsibility, inspire people to be part of the solution.
Group members:
Ashley Collins: Production of the physical magazine / pages 9 and 10
Jordan Ragsdale: Designed front and back cover / pages 1, 2, 3 and 4
Brelynn Jones: Designed pages 5, 6, 7, 8

Through my research I focused on people native to Gainesville and the effect of students on the community. I found a lot of people had grievances towards the changes Gainesville was facing. Because of this I wanted to capture the beauty of Gainesville and the voices of people advocating to sustain it.
With a focus on my research and mood board, I began laying out my pages. I wanted to incorporate interactive layers that people could take from the magazine itself.
I experimented with collages choosing important landmarks in Gainesville.
The production process for this project included developing sticker sheets on a cricut, printing and cutting paper, testing perforated edges, and ensuring the final magazine is clean and consistent.
My team and I created two drafts which allowed us to experiment and perfect our final product. The first one was glued. The 2nd draft I used a staple method that was useful later on for including our interactive materials.
